San Diego Safari Park

Our last big adventure on our San Diego Trip 2013 was the San Diego Safari Park.  It's similar to the zoo, but allows the animals more roaming room and only features animals found in Africa.  A good portion of the park is seen through walking, but they also offer about a 45 minute guided trolley tour.

And I have to admit, Kyle, Kayden and I were done by the time we made it to the Safari Park.  We got there about an hour after it opened (about 10:30) and at about 1:30 Kyle asked me if I was ready to go soon.  It was hot, our feet hurt, and we were all tired.  So, I think we missed about a third of the park and if we ever go back to San Diego, that will be first on our "to-do" list.

First up, the Gorillas.

Kayden's only request all day was we get blue cotton candy, thankfully we found some!

Told you we were done. lol
This little guy was stealing from the feed bucket!

We had a great time on our vacation and I can't wait until our next trip.  Kayden is getting to be the perfect age for different amusement parks and activities.  I love it.

A Big Boy Bed

Yesterday the three of us went shopping for a big boy bed for Kayden. Just one more example of how he is turning into a kid and no longer a baby. :(

Thankfully the process was pretty easy.  We, meaning Kyle, did a lot of research online and narrowed our selection down to two, and they were at the same store so we went to Redmond (about a 35-40 min drive from our house) to check out the showroom and quality of the furniture.  Kayden's only request was that his bed have a BIG ladder, which was much easier to fulfill than the train bed with a door he wanted just a few short months ago.

And once we started looking around at the showroom Kayden found the ones with a BIG ladder and had fun climbing up and down, being sure to take off his shoes once he reached the top!  Kyle and I compared the two beds and decided on one and bought it.

The tricky part was getting it home.  The largest box was 80" long and wouldn't fit in our Pathfinder.  So we searched around and come up with a solution.  Kyle's co-worker happened to be at their work, which was about 15 min away and he has a large truck.  So, we arranged it with him to take his truck up to Redmond to pick up the bed, then bring it back to Kyle's work and we would figure out how to get it home from there.  It might have had to stay at work until one day next week if we couldn't figure out a solution.

On the way to Kyle's work, Kayden fell asleep, so I opted to hang out in our car with Kayden until Kyle got back.

Well, in the meantime Cindy had texted and asked what we were doing do, I replied with our current situation and so, Cindy decided to call Christy to ask her to come meet us in Dean's truck.  So, we finally had a plan, which ended up working really well.  Thanks to Cindy (Kyle and I thought Dean and Christy were busy). We got the bed home around 3:30, got the bed unloaded and then I ran up, with Christy, to Target to get a bed set while Kyle stayed home with Kayden to get the bed put together.

The assembly went well, and thank you hubby for doing it all yourself!  I had dinner plans with friends so I left him to figure it out all on his own and he did awesome.

When I got home, I got all the bedding washed and bed made.  Then we finished the final touches and gave Kayden the ok to call the neighborhood over to see the new bed set!

Sadly, though, I don't have any pictures to show from the assembly.  :(

And....I have to admit, Kayden did really well in his bed for the first night.  He got up several times, but there was no crying or screaming involved, and that, my friends, is progress in this household!
His asleep in his bed for the first night, sorry for the darkness, it was the best I could do with my camera phone and no lights!

And now for a pic of the actual bed.

We hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend, ours has started off with a good memory for years to come.

San Diego Zoo

On Wednesday of our trip we headed out to the San Diego Zoo.  This was my one request on our trip.  I remember going as a little kid and wanted Kayden have just as much fun as I did when I was little.

And the zoo did not disappoint.  It was a long day, but so fun.  They have all kids of animals that our local zoos in Washington do not have.

Here are some pictures from our trip to the zoo.

Studying the map so he can show us which direction to go.

This peacock was so beautiful!  I loved seeing it show off it's feathers.

There were a lot of babies at the zoo while we were there and one very pregnant giraffe.  I really wanted this pregnant giraffe to have it's baby while we were at the zoo, but she didn't have it until after we left.  Ugh.
Some fun giraffe facts:
1.  They are pregnant 15 months, poor giraffes.
2. Their babies are around 6 ft at birth, um...ouch!
3.  Their babies are around 150+ lbs at birth, no thank you.

The zoo also had a petting area and Kayden amazed me.  He was so happy to be able to bet these goats and sheep.

We told Kayden it was time to go, but before we could he had to go around to each goat and touch their ear.  I guess he didn't want to play favorites!

I think this goat was tired of being man-handled so it was playing "sleeping", and Kayden had to tell us to be quiet. And yes, he did get reminded to not put his hands on his mouth until he washed them really well!

Daddy and Kayden on the Skyfari.

Kayden loved these foot massagers.  They vibrated your whole body and weren't comfortable at all to me, but he sure did love them.
Little guy was tired and waiting so patiently for his ice cream.

All right, no family photo's at the zoo.  :(  Next up, The San Diego Safari Park

Coranado Island

On Tuesday of our trip we decided to take it easy and maybe spend some time at the beach.  Nana had mentioned that we should check out Coronado Island, so we decided to let our lazy day lead us there.

It is a beautiful town with fine, sandy beaches, warm weather and a very long wooden dock. This is a very photo heavy post with little stories, so enjoy!

Kayden was having such a fun time finding seaweed and throwing it in the ocean.  He did it over and over and over again.  He could have done it all day if we let him!

And again, I will end with a family photo!
We had a great time on our vacation and I can't wait to share more pictures with you guys.
